Quang Nam logs 216,000 foreign tourists - 03/09/2008
The number of tourists to the central region's Quang Nam Province has increased considerably in the first four months of the year as the area promotes its special attractions.

Quang Nam has received 672,000 tourists so far this year, up 50.3% over last year, including 216,000 international travellers representing a 6% increase.

According to the Quang Nam People?s Committee, special programmes organised by the provincial localities under the frame of the ?National Tourism Year 2006? have been working. The local authority has announced VND118bil ($7.8mil) in turnover in the first four months of the year, fulfilling 26.3% of the yearly plan. Revenues from tourism were reportedly at VND300bil ($20mil).

The provincial tourism department and travel firms are planning to launch other special programmes, including festivals and cultural days. Waterways tours began in May as well, under which guests will travel along Quang Nam?s famous rivers, such as Thu Bon and Vu Gia. The waterways tours are new products developed this year under the National Tourism Year 2006.

Quang Nam is situated in the middle of central Vietnam, famous for cultural sites including Hoi An, the My Son Holy Land and the Tra Kieu Champa capital. Hoi An has been recognised as a world cultural heritage site since December, 1999.
